MAC MINIMAL ESSENTIAL

Your Mac’s menu bar clock, reborn as a split-flap departure board. Quietly turning over everything you’d otherwise reach for your phone to check.

HOVER THE MENU BAR → FLAPPI STEPS ASIDE

Every menu bar app asks for another icon.

Flappi asks for the opposite.

It quietly replaces the clutter with one beautiful display that rotates through the information you actually care about, then gets out of your way.

Because the best interface isn’t the one you notice.
It’s the one you don’t.

Everything you glance at, on one row

One minimal row, and you choose what it rotates through. Set how often it flips, and click an icon to preview it.

More modes on the way.

COMING SOON

The whole board, on any screen

FLAPPI takes the full split-flap display to your tablet, laptop, smart TV, or a wall of them. For the desk or the storefront, personal or business.

The physical boards cost thousands, ship in months, and jam when a flap sticks. This is the same feeling on hardware you already own.

Installing Flappi Bar

1 · Drag to Applications

Unzip the download and drop Flappi Bar.app into your Applications folder.

2 · First open

Because it isn’t from the App Store, macOS blocks it the first time. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll to the bottom, and click “Open Anyway”. Just once; after that it opens normally.

3 · Grant Accessibility

Flappi uses it to find where your menu bar clock sits and to tuck your other icons away. It does not read your keystrokes.

Then what?

Hover the board and Flappi steps aside, handing back your real icons and clock; move away and it flips back over them. Press Shift-Command-B (⇧⌘B) any time to open Settings, and quit from there with Command-Q.

Good to know

Is it distracting?

No. Flappi never buzzes, badges or pops up. The board flips quietly every few seconds and you glance at it when you feel like it. It is something to look at, not something that grabs at you. Your latest text can sit in the corner of your eye without pulling you out of what you are doing.

How do the text and email modes work?

Flappi reads Messages and Mail on your own Mac. Texts and iMessages use Full Disk Access; Gmail reads through Apple Mail and asks to control it. Both are one-time macOS permissions, and no message ever leaves your machine.

What permissions does it need?

Only what a feature uses. Accessibility to tuck your other icons away, and optionally Full Disk Access or Mail for the message modes. Blending uses your wallpaper file, so Screen Recording is optional and off by default. Nothing is recorded, and nothing is sent anywhere.

Will it match my wallpaper?

Yes. Flappi reads the strip of wallpaper it covers and copies the dark wash macOS lays under the menu bar, so the board disappears into the bar. There is a Shading slider in Settings if your appearance needs a different amount. Animated and dynamic wallpapers move behind the board, so those blend less cleanly.

Which Macs does it run on?

macOS 14 (Sonoma) and up, on both Apple Silicon and Intel. Primary display only.

Is it a subscription?

No. FLAPPI BAR is a one-time purchase, yours to keep, with no account to create.

The story behind it

I’ve always loved split-flap boards. Standing under one, waiting for my gate to turn over, there’s a beat where the whole thing clatters and you have no choice but to wait for the answer. Nothing else waits like that anymore. There was something about it I wanted back.

FLAPPI BAR is that feeling on your Mac. A single calm row at the top of the screen, quietly turning over the things you’d otherwise reach for your phone to check, the time anywhere in the world, the weather, whatever is next on your calendar. Barely there when you don’t need it, and everything that matters right where you look when you do.
